Squamish-raised Chloe Scott never expected to follow the path of people such as Scorsese, Capra and Welles, but she is well on her way to being credited along with those names, if talent and luck have anything to do with it.
"I never said to myself, I'm going to be a filmmaker." Says 17 year old Scott, "Then last year, friends and I competed in a 48 hour High School Film Competition called Zoomfest, just for fun." Her team ended up winning best Junior Film, and was awarded a full scholarship to Gulf Island Film and Television School. Success started to snowball from there. A few months later, Chloe's team placed 1st in the BC Student Film Festival for a PSA, and again achieved nomination in Zoomfest 2007 for best technical film. It is no surprise then that Squamish Rotary decided to sponsor the young filmmaker to attend the Powell River Adventures in Film program, an event that wouldn't have been possible without the support of Rotary Clubs across BC. "Powell River was such an amazing experience. Not only did we get to participate in really great workshops, we also got to produce two minute shorts and network with professionals and the other students. Networking is what it comes down to. After attending film programs and camps such as Powell River, you start to see lots of familiar faces and realize the BC Film community is relatively small." When asked what her favorite aspect of filmmaking is, Chloe smiles and answers "I love everything about it! That's my favorite part, I think; is that you can incorporate your interests into film. That makes it difficult when it comes to thinking Career-wise. I would love to be a cinematographer because I love the artistic element, and then I think, no, I like directing better because you can work with people. Of course, sometimes I feel the complete opposite and choose editing over all other aspects because I love the technology aspect of it. While she may not know what the future holds for her in filmmaking, Chloe is happy just living in the moment, "I am always running around with a camera and tripod, or else I'm in the editing suite at school. I just finished shooting a documentary, and post starts tomorrow so that's exciting. Some of the best directors started around my age. If I wasn't trying to produce anything, I'd be limiting myself."
