Ellis Ross MLA: Skeena

Ellis Ross was born and raised in Kitamaat Village, BC and is a member of the Haisla Nation.

He is a former Chief Councillor of the Haisla First Nation and the current BC Liberal MLA for Skeena. He was elected MLA in 2017 and was re-elected in October, 2020.

Ellis has worked in both the private and public sectors, and has business experience in hand logging, beachcombing, and construction.

Canadian Business magazine named Ellis one of its 50 most influential Canadians in 2012. BC Business magazine named him to its Top 50 the same year. He has been a panelist and guest speaker at events organized by The Economist, the Conference Board of Canada, the BC Business Council, and dozens of groups. 

In 2012, he was appointed by Premier Christy Clark as the founding Chair of the Aboriginal Business and Investment Council. Ellis was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in 2013 and was awarded the Order of BC in 2014.

He is currently running for leadership of the British Columbia Liberal Party, with the goal of becoming Premier of British Columbia in 2023. He has been described as the “Change Candidate".
 
Ellis actively enjoys golf, soccer, and basketball. He has a passion for seeing people succeed in athletics, school, and life, which drove his coaching style. One of the highlights of his coaching career is coaching the Mount Elizabeth Secondary School senior girls' basketball team to a zone championship.
