Mark Goodwin: Interview with MountainFM - Duck in a Truck, Rotary Beef BBQ, & some trivia.

Mark Goodwin, President of the Rotary Club of Squamish, was interviewed live on MountainFM on August 1st. He spoke about the Duck in a Truck lottery draw, and the Rotary Beef BBQ taking place on August 2nd befor the Loggers' Sports show.

Mike Storey: Adopt-a-VIllage project in Laos.
Mike Storey: Adopt-a-VIllage project in Laos.

Mike is a member of the Rotary Club of Ladner. They have been involved in the Adopt-a-Village program in Loas for a number of years.

The main focus in Laos is the distribution of water filters.  Each filter provides a family of up to (8) persons with their daily requirement of clean drinking water.  They do a whole village at a time.  It could be a 40 person village and have done up to a 240 family village which is pretty large.

They distributed 500 water filters to 4 different villages on their recent Feb 2019 trip to Laos. Mike brought back a water filter that he brings to presentations so people can see them.

They do this service by working with a Rotarian from Ontario who runs a Canadian registered charity that works exclusively in Laos.  The primary focus of Adopt A Village in Laos is clean water, education and health.

In May, Fiona was awarded  been In May, Fiona was awarded a National Geographic Early Career grant to support her latest project, the Howe Sound Atl'ka7tsem Marine Reference Guide.

Of the interactive map — with more than 140 layers of data — Beaty says, "Our goal is to create a database that does reflect scientific knowledge but also local ecological knowledge, traditional ecological knowledge and cultural information so that we can create a resource that's sort of a one-stop shop, where you can go and visualize all of these different data layers and see how they overlap."
