Bryan Zandberg was the Registrar for the National Inquiry and will be presenting about what it was like working at the public hearings of the Commission, which gathered oral and documentary evidence from over 1,500 witnesses across Canada over a period of two-and-a-half years.

Reclaiming Power and Place, the title of the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, reveals that persistent and deliberate human and Indigenous rights violations and abuses are the root cause behind Canada’s staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people. The two-volume report calls for transformative legal and social changes to resolve the crisis that has devastated Indigenous communities across the country.

Chuck and Crosby will be speaking about the development of a surf park in the Cheekeye Fan area of Squamish. The surf park will be a large new attraction to the Sea to Sky corridor that will draw in a significant amount of tourists to the region as well as providing the local community an exciting new outdoor adventure sport to participate in. Our aim is to inform stakeholders in the community of our plans and listen to feedback before we go through the development permitting process.

The Wave Forest was founded by myself and Crosby MacDonald. We were both born and raised in Vancouver but found careers in Finance and Consulting respectively in London, UK. After almost 10 years abroad we formed the Wave Forest company and moved home in search of land to launch the business. I now live in Squamish and Crosby is based in Vancouver (for the time being).

Community Involvement
After graduating from UBC, Lion Mike moved out of the big city. Community service was Mike’s interest. He first joined the Vernon Kinsmen in 1984. Later, he joined the Castlegar Lions in 1987, and subsequently transferred to Squamish in 1990. In his 34 plus years as a lion, he has held almost every club position, and is now taking on Zone Chair for the third time.
Goals for the year are to encourage leadership and help clubs overcome challenges. ZC Mike is looking forward to continuing with the 3rd annual Cops for Cancer Zone Project, which enables the clubs to work together while supporting one of our global causes, childhood cancer.
Lion Mike has been club lion of the year, received numerous certificates of appreciation, and is a Melvin Jones Fellow.
He enjoys visiting other clubs sharing in fun and fellowship, while learning how they successfully serve their communities.
Lion Mike enjoys his retirement, as has more time to travel and support his community.
